Shem Creek Waterfront Park

The town of Mount Pleasant City Council voted on April 4, 2011 to recommend the approval of a yearly lottery to determine which shrimpers and crabbers will get to moor at the new Shem Creek docks. The town's new two million dollar waterfront park is scheduled to open in August of 2011. Fishermen will be allowed to sell their daily catch directly to the public on a small island that is part of the park. The ton hopes to have space for four shrimp boats and two crab boats. The park will have  more than 1000 feet of ten foot wide boardwalk through the marsh and creek front down to the Charleston Harbor. Recreational boaters will be allowed to tie up to a floating dock during the day. A water taxi company has asked for space to operate at the park. The tiown paid 6 million dollars for the property.
